If you step into the Colliers Arms, you'll think a new pub has come to the Rhondda.

With a grand refurbishment, you'll be thrilled with the Porth's pub transformation. The Colliers Arms has a friendly family atmosphere with special designated non-smoking tables and full disabled access. Partners Lynne and David Williams are celebrating their sixth year at the pub this month. Originally from the Glynfach area, they always wanted to run a pub. Lynne said: "It was a small pub before, and didn't have enough room for people. "It's like a tardis now. The outside doesn't look as big as it is on the inside.

"We pride ourselves on the no-smoking side of the pub. "A lot of people won't come out to pubs because of smoke, so you have got to have smoking and non-smoking. "That's really important to a lot of our customers." The first floor function room and restaurant is totally non-smoking and has a new dance-floor, full stage and a separate entrance. A special illumination feature lights up the ceiling, painting like a night sky. It is available for weddings, christenings, conferences, private functions and even children's parties with a disco for up to 100 people, complete with catering.

Watch the Wales rugby team in action in the Colliers Arms, which is a popular choice for all sports fans. Or if you want to take part, you can join their ladies and gents skittles and darts sides. Hungry? Most renowned are the Colliers' tasty chips which are freshly prepared, you have to try them. There is also a wide selection of food on the menu as well as daily specials in the restaurant. And you don't have to hurry as they have an extended daily supper licence until midnight. To follow is a choice of delicious deserts, many of them homemade. Or whet your whistle with one of their many beers, wines and spirits. If you fancy popping in at lunchtime, but don't have long to spare, you can even order your meals by phone or email, and it will be ready for you to dine on arrival. Sunday lunch meal deals are also available, but booking is strongly advised to avoid disappointment.

Former construction worker, David added: "It's a completely different pub. People who have known the pub can't get over how it's changed. "We've had comments saying 'you wouldn't have anything like this in Cardiff'. "We've really pushed the boat out." The pair also hold regular theme nights including French, Caribbean, fancy dress and cheese and wine evenings. With Christmas coming, why not taste their festive party menu? Some dates you can dine to the entertainment of a live artist. Don't fancy spending Christmas stuffing the turkey and peeling sprouts? Then book now for a Christmas day sitting. So bring your family or friends along to see the Colliers Arms new look. In Glynfach Road, they're only five minutes from the Pop Factory and Rhondda Heritage Park.
